I guess you all will agree with me that if you are actually planning to explore a place there is no better way to do it than with the natives! Remember those days when we used to visit our cousins in other states during holidays? It used to be so much fun; they taking us around and acclimatizing us with their abode; their unparalleled hosting made us feel like a local! Well, thanks to the concept of Homestays and Air BnB’s, now you can do that all across the globe (Also, no need to have a cousin there ;)). These wonderful homes away from home not only help you in getting a better insight of your travel destination but are also quite easy on your pocket, and after the trip you will no longer be a stranger to your travel destination rather you will come back as a “Local”, with some good buddies at all the places you have covered so far (Isn’t that a great idea!)

We all know about Air BnB (thanks to their massive ad campaigns!) but here, I am listing a few equally good alternatives. I call them – ELT’s Best AirBnB Alternatives. So bookmark this post right away for your upcoming travel endeavors! (Don’t forget to check out the last option if you want a free stay :))

Booking.com

I know, I know! You are aware about this Amsterdam based travel booking giant but have you ever tried their homestay, BnB option?? If not then do it right away! They have their very own search engine for beautiful vacation rentals all across the globe. It is one of my favorites as they provide fully refundable option so you may cancel if you find something better or there is a sudden change in plan. Also, since they are quite prominent now, you will find more reviews here than on other smaller websites.

HotelsCombined

HotelsCombined is what “SkySkanner” is for flight bookings. It aggregates the search results from many hotel booking sites, many of which we are unaware of (this sector is so dynamic, difficult to keep up!) and compares them all side by side so you can easily and quickly find the best deal on the exact stay option you want. Just filter your search results for the type of accommodation you are looking for including apartments, B&Bs, vacation rentals, guest houses, homestays, hostels, and more.

Tripping

This website claims to be “world’s largest search engine for rentals” and let me tell you these guys are pretty good. They have a huge network of vacation homes (beach houses, condos, ski cabins etc) and rentals across 150,000 destinations so do check this one out for your next escapade.

HomeAway

HomeAway is especially for those vagabonds who are looking for an entire home to temporarily call their own and is a perfect site to look for a short term “Home” away from home. HomeAway has the rentals, in over 190 countries around the world.

Trusted Housesitters – All the pet lovers now stay for free (No Kiddling!)

Are you are a pet lover and miss your four legged friend while on the go??  Well not anymore! Just check out “Trusted Housesitters”, they allow pet owners to travel without worry and gives pet-loving travelers a way to stay for free in an exciting new city (A noble concept!).

So book the one that suits you right away!

Now, till we meet again stay connected and never get LOST!

  1. Thanks for all the tips, it will be super useful for when I’m booking my next trip abroad! There are so many options other than staying at hotels. Love the idea behind Homeaway 🙂

  2. Hi!
Thanks for these great recommendations! The are very helpful and I will surely include them in my planning for the next trips! The site itself looks very good, simply a great travel blog! Keep up the good work 🙂 the only thing I would improve is the commentary function. Most people will not scroll all the way down 🙂

    Cheers
    Markus

  3. Love the list, especially Trusted Housesitters. My girlfriend and I have dogs and sometimes we can’t bring them to our trips and we tend to book a pet hotel for them. I think hiring a pet sitter sounds cheaper.

  4. Loved this, thanks for sharing! The only one on your list I’ve used is booking.com, because I love the free cancellation! Tripping and hotels combined sound like great resources.

  5. I’ve never used airBnB myself, but we recently rented an apartment through Booking.com 🙂

Thanks for this article, I didn’t know there were such great resources out there! ?

    1. Booking.com is undoubtedly amazing and the most trusted since it has been used pretty widely but do try out the other newbies as well they are equally good! Infact you never know you might get the same apartment at a lower price! ?
